How to remove press-on nails safely and quickly?

Press-on nails are now a favorite choice for individuals and nail professionals for their convenience, diversity, protection, temporary nature, and cost-effectiveness, suitable for a wide range of user groups and application scenarios.

Press-on nails are reusable due to the sticking technology (such as double-sided tape or stickers) and the durability of the design, so it is very important to learn how to remove press-on nails correctly and safely. In this article, we will take you to understand what press-on nails are and their use, as well as the most important topic: how to remove press-on nails safely and quickly.

What are press-on nails?

Press-on nails are pre-made artificial nails that are easy to understand from the name - they are pressed onto real nails and glued. They are usually made of plastic or resin and come in a variety of shapes, colors and designs, which can be selected according to personal preferences and occasions. Compared with traditional nail extension techniques (such as glue, light curing, etc.), press-on nails are easy to use, quick to replace and relatively low-cost. This makes them a choice for many people to quickly get beautiful nails at home or when traveling.

In order for us to better understand the process of removing them, we also need to understand how they are applied.

When we use press-on nails, we use: press-on nails, jelly glue stickers, or nail glue.

The first step is to make sure your natural nails are dry, clean, and trimmed the way you like. If needed, you can lightly sand the surface of the nail to make it easier to adhere.

The second step is to apply glue. If you are using jelly stickers, just choose the right size jelly stickers and stick them on. Tear off the plastic and stick your press-on nails on and hold for 5 seconds.

If you are using nail glue, take a brush and apply a thin layer of glue on your nails. Be careful to use a small amount of glue. If you use too much glue, it may be difficult to remove the nails, and it may damage your natural nails over time. After applying the glue, take the press-on nails and press each nail into the glue for 30 seconds. They will dry quickly, but you still need to be careful with your nails after applying. Finally, you can also file and trim as needed.

Now that you know how press-on nails get attached to your nails, let’s look at how to properly and safely remove them!

How to remove press-on nails correctly and safely?

  • Removing press-on nails with jelly stickers
First, use a nail art stick to gently lift the sticker from the side (if you find it difficult, soak your nails in warm or soapy water first), carefully remove each nail from the side slowly, do not pull hard to avoid damaging the natural nail; after removal, wash the nails with warm water and soap, making sure to remove the residual adhesive.
This press-on nail that uses stickers for adhesion is easy to remove. When you buy our handmade press-on nails, you will find an application kit with jelly stickers, a small wooden stick and some other things.

  • Removing press-on nails fixed with glue
First, Soak the nails in soapy water or acetone for 10 minutes
If you plan to reuse this press-on nail, soak the nails in warm or soapy water for 5-10 minutes.
If you plan to discard this press-on nail, or you plan to reuse it but they do not fall off after soaking in soapy water, soak the nails in acetone to dissolve the adhesive.
Gently shake the nail back and forth while soaking until the water or acetone loosens the adhesive. Remember if the nail doesn't come off easily, don't try to remove it forcefully to avoid damaging your natural nail.
Second, Use a nail stick to loosen the press-on nail.
After soaking, place one end of a small wooden stick (the application accessory in the nail kit you purchased) between your real nail and the press-on nail. Then, slowly shake the small wooden stick back and forth to loosen the nail. Don't start at the tip of the nail, start at the cuticle end and move the small wooden stick toward the tip.
Finally, Gently wipe off the remaining adhesive.
After removing the press-on nail, go back to the nail bed and wipe off the remaining adhesive with a polishing block or fine-grit nail file. You can also use a small wooden stick to scrape off the adhesive on the nail. If the adhesive is still not removed, try soaking the nail in warm water again or applying a little acetone with a cotton ball.

The above steps can help you remove the press-on nail safely and effectively, protecting your natural nails from damage.
